Molina remembers Herminia Peñaranda, the forgotten actress

The Virginia Martínez Fernández de Molina Auditorium in Molina de Segura hosts this afternoon (8:00 p.m.) the presentation of the book Herminia Peñaranda, actress, a biography by Antonio López Meseguer and Francisco Torres Monreal who have co-edited the Department of Culture of the Town Hall and the University of Murcia. The objective is to “rescue from oblivion” an artist who, a native of the district of La Ribera, deserves “a space” in the history of Spanish theater in the first half of the 20th century.

And it is that Peñaranda, who was encouraged in the beginning by his favorite playwright and novelist, none other than Benito Pérez Galdós, participated in theatrical experiences promoted by some of the best Spanish writers of the moment, such as Baroja, Valle-Inclán or Rivas Cherif, which gives a good example of his interpretative level. In addition, she was a committed person who during the Republic was particularly involved in movements for the defense of women’s rights.

The artist, who will be remembered among others by the mayor, Eliseo García Cantó, and the Councilor for Equality, Monserrat Montanos Villegas, also worked during those years as a Declamation teacher at the Madrid Conservatory, a center where she finished her “brilliantly” training and from which he left to be part of some of the most outstanding casts of the capital. We are talking, therefore, of a particularly relevant actress who is expected to pay a fair tribute with this book.
