Molecule used to treat hepatitis C cancels new coronavirus, says Venezuela

The Venezuelan president announced on Sunday that the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Investigations has successfully tested a molecule that “100% cancels” the new coronavirus. And that the country will send the results to the World Health Organization.

“O IVIC [Instituto Venezuelano de Investigações Científicas] tested a molecule used to treat hepatitis C for the treatment of covid-19. This study lasted six months, resulting in the annihilation of 100% of the virus. Venezuela obtained a drug that 100% cancels the coronavirus, “Maduro told Venezuelan state television. This is the DR10 molecule, which has been totally isolated and” has no toxicity that affects healthy molecules “or causes side effects, he added.

According to Nicolás Maduro, the “study was certified, with all the necessary tests” and in the coming days Venezuela intends, through the World Health Organization, to “ratify (ratify) the results obtained”. Venezuela will soon begin “mass production” thanks to “international alliances”, the president anticipated.

Venezuelan Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, detailed that the investigation was monitored “through cells infected with the virus, isolated, in Venezuelan patients”. The results were “100% inhibition of virus replication in vitro,” he said.

89,565 confirmed cases

In Venezuela, 89,565 cases of covid-19 are officially confirmed, which caused 770 deaths, while 84,720 people recovered from the disease. The country has been on alert since March 13, which allows the executive to enact “drastic decisions” to combat the pandemic. After allowing for a “wide flexibilization” of the preventive quarantine of the covid-19, which allowed the opening of commercial establishments in general, tourism and public bodies, access to the country’s beaches, activities and outdoor events, Venezuela returns today to seven days of strict quarantine.
