Chisinau has contracted the “Kiev bacillus” and Moldova is only a nominal member of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), said Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as quoted by TASS.
Before that, Putin pointed out that some countries, although they are members of the community, have actually stopped working in this format. Among them he named Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, adds BTA.
“The CIS is interested in these countries participating. Yes, several nominal participants have already appeared. Ukraine is so for obvious reasons. Moldova, for some reason, thinks that this is against its interests, for some reason Moldova has caught the Ukraine bug “or-or “. A reasonable person makes his choice “and-and”, and they “either-or”, Peskov told journalists in response to a question whether the CIS needs nominal members.
Today’s political elite in Moldova see themselves as Romanians, not Moldovans, Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalists.
“Moldova is a special case. Today’s political elite there see themselves not as Moldovans, but as Romanians, they have dual citizenship. This is their choice,” Putin said.
In early October, Moldovan President Maya Sandu announced that the Russian mercenary group “Wagner” was preparing a coup in her country. According to her, the plan included bribing voters and provoking violence during anti-government protests.
“The situation is really dramatic and we have to defend ourselves,” Sandu said at the time in an interview with the Financial Times, without elaborating on when the coup attempt was planned.
The president said that money was secretly sent from Russia to the former Soviet republic located between Ukraine and Romania, partly through couriers and partly through bank accounts in Dubai.
