Moldovan President Refuses Hand Kiss from Hungarian Prime Minister at European Summit in Chisinau

The President of Moldova showed a principled position when she met the head of the Hungarian government at the summit in Chisinau.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who opposes arms sales to Ukraine and often blocks EU anti-Russian sanctions, got into an awkward situation at a summit of European leaders in Chisinau when Moldovan President Maia Sandu refused to let him kiss her hand.

Sandu, as the hostess of the forum, personally met the guests. Actively circulating on social media videohow the Hungarian prime minister, upon arrival at the summit, is heading down the red carpet to the president of Moldova. Having approached Sandu, he made an attempt to kiss her hand, which was immediately stopped by the Moldavian leader.

Such a refusal, apparently, was a big surprise for Orban – the confusion and even a certain stupor of the head of the Hungarian government were visible to the naked eye. He was brought to his senses by the same Sandu, who invited him to look into the camera for a general photo.

Recall that in one of his recent interviews, Orban frightened Ukraine with “great losses” during the planned counteroffensive and again called on Kyiv and Moscow to sit down at the negotiating table, calling himself “the only European leader who advocates peace.” In response, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that negotiations with the Russian Federation are possible only after the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory.

Earlier, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, commenting on Orban’s words about “Ukraine’s inability to defeat Russia,” said that Western countries would continue to support Kiev, and also reported on the success of the Ukrainian army on the battlefield.
