The pro-Western forces have won the Moldovan parliamentary elections. The action and solidarity party previously represented by President Maija Sandu may have won even an absolute majority.
German radio company Deutche Welle refers to the Central Election Commission and reports that 95% of ballots have been processed so far.
President Sandu’s party won about 48% of the vote, but in second place with more than 30% is the Communist and Socialist bloc, led by two former heads of state.
Another party may have entered Parliament.
CONTEXT:
Early parliamentary elections were announced by the pro-European president to strengthen his position against pro-Russian political forces. Moldovan society has long been divided over whether to forge closer ties with the European Union or maintain close relations with Russia. Therefore, the possible victory of “Action and Solidarity” is considered to be a serious turning point in the country’s history.
