Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Comments on Russian Ban and “Sanctions” Against Moldovan Officials and Journalists

Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Igor Zakharov commented on the summons of the Moldovan Ambassador to Moscow Lilian Darius to the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the “sanctions” announced there.

According to a representative of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, Russia banned the entry of the head of the Cabinet of the President of Moldova Adrian Balutcele, presidential adviser Olga Rosca, Secretary General of the Government of Moldova Artur Mizhe, member of the Council on Television and Radio Ruslan Mikhalevsky and coordinator of the Center for Strategic Communications and Combating Disinformation Alexandru Manoli.

Also on Moscow’s “black list” are some representatives of the Moldovan presidential office and government and Moldovan journalists, in particular NewsMaker deputy editor-in-chief Steli Untilila.

“The decision of the Russian Federation is regrettable. But it is important to note that such measures are already becoming commonplace for the Russian authorities,” said a representative of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry.

“Despite this fact, Moldova remains firmly committed to countering external interference and any destabilizing actions regarding our security and sovereignty,” he added.

During call On January 10, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed to the Moldovan Ambassador many more “decisive protests” and “concerns,” in particular regarding the alleged participation of “NATO instructors” in the training of the Ukrainian military on Moldovan territory.
