If Russian President Vladimir Putin decides to come to Moldova, he will be immediately arrested. This was stated by the head of state Maia Sandu in an interview with Euronews Romania.
She added that Chisinau has ratified the relevant agreement and is ready to comply with the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC), issued in The Hague on March 17, which issued an arrest warrant for the Russian leader.
“Yes. The Republic of Moldova has signed an agreement on the Criminal Court, and Moldova will respect the decision of the court”, Sandu confirmed.
She added that for Moldova there is no risk of a Russian military invasion now thanks to Ukraine “which keeps the Russian army away from our borders.”
“We condemned Russian aggression from the first day of the war, we resolutely said that Russia wants to overthrow the constitutional order in the Republic of Moldova. We are confronted with Russian attempts to destabilize our country and spoke about these attempts several months ago. Fortunately, our institutions have succeeded in protecting the country, and we are becoming more and more resilient. Over the years, we have seen how Russia is trying to blackmail RM using energy… I went public so that people would know who our friends and enemies are,” Maia Sandu concluded.
Recall that earlier the Prime Minister of Moldova Doreen Rechan announced that a list of Russian citizens who are banned from entering the country, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been prepared. The head of the Moldovan government stressed that the so-called black list is not public and some officials find out that they are included in it only upon arrival at the Chisinau airport.
As reported EADailyone of the first to respond to the decision of the Moldovan authorities to ban Putin from entering the country was the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev. He said that no one is going to go there, given that there is no such country anymore.
“Local chiefs sold it to Romania, becoming traitors to their homeland. And it makes no sense to talk about anything with them, ” Medvedev wrote then.
In turn, the press secretary of the head of the Russian state Dmitry Peskov stated that Moldova “is rapidly drifting towards Russophobia and is trying to become an unfriendly country to us,” agreeing that Romania is absorbing Moldova.
