Moldova to Join EU Decision on Import of Agricultural Products from Ukraine

Moldovan Minister of Agriculture Vladimir Bolea on Saturday informed his Ukrainian counterpart Nikolai Solsky about Chisinau’s intention to join the decision of the European Union on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

About it reported Moldovan Ministry of Agriculture, writes “European truth“.

The press release states that Moldova intends to join the EU decision on the introduction of temporary measures on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds originating from Ukraine, while allowing their transit.

At the meeting, Bolea explained to Solsky that there is a significant amount of grain in Moldovan storage facilities, and this causes farmers to fear that they will not have enough space for a new crop.

“At the same time, the export trend of domestic grain is downward, logistics costs have increased, and prices on international exchanges have collapsed. Our farmers need to make the most efficient use of grain reserves and prepare for the new agricultural season,” he added.

The Minister of Agriculture of Moldova stressed that Chisinau is in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who have been subjected to Russian aggression, and is ready to conduct a “constructive dialogue with the Ukrainian authorities” to solve the problems of farmers in both states.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen the dialogue at the ministerial level to facilitate the exchange of information and develop ties with members of the agricultural community, the report said.

As a reminder, on May 2, the European Commission took exceptional and temporary measures precautions against imports of selected agricultural products from Ukraine after pressure from five European Union member states that blamed Ukrainian imports for the collapse in local prices.

Thus, the European Commission replaced the unilateral decisions of five countries with its own regulation and now the import ban applies to four agricultural products: wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine.
