Moldovan President Maia Sandu turned to Russia for help in providing the Sputnik V vaccine. On Thursday, March 25, Sandu wrote about this in her Telegram channel.
She clarified that this was discussed during her conversation with the Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov.
“The priority now is to ensure that our citizens have access to effective vaccines of all types, as much as possible. I reiterated, as in previous discussions, that we would like to receive assistance from the Russian Federation for faster access to the Sputnik V vaccine, given the need speed up the vaccination process, “Sandu wrote.
Vaccination against coronavirus in Moldova began in early March, when the first batches of vaccine from the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca arrived in the republic through the international COVAX mechanism and from the Romanian government. It is expected that through COVAX the country will receive 20% of the required amount as assistance, another 30% can be bought through this mechanism at a preferential price. The remaining volumes will be purchased by the government directly from producers.
During the pandemic, 219 988 cases of COVID-19 infection were recorded in Moldova. 193,562 people recovered, 4661 died.
