“Moldova and the United States Sign First Bilateral Open Skies Agreement for Air Transport”

Representatives of Moldova and the United States on Thursday signed the Open Skies Agreement for Air Transport, which was the first bilateral airspace agreement between the countries.

The agreement was signed in Chisinau by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova, Lilia Dabizha, and the US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard Verma.

The document provides for unlimited capacity and frequency of flights, rights to open routes, a liberal regime for charter flights and the possibility of open code sharing – that is, the joint operation of one flight by two companies.

“The agreement with Moldova will expand our strong economic and commercial partnership, will promote the development of interpersonal ties and create new opportunities for airlines, travel companies and customers,” the US State Department is convinced.

The US Embassy in Moldova noted that the entry into force of the agreement would create prerequisites for launch of direct flights from Chisinau to the USAwill contribute to the opening of the air services market in Moldova and the diversification of destinations from Chisinau International Airport.

The United States has already entered into similar open skies agreements with more than 130 other partners, while Moldova has more than 20.
