Mojo 84 Keyboard Review: A Detailed Analysis from a Keyboard Enthusiast

Hello, this is Editor B who loves keyboards. Even though the keyboard is already overflowing, you end up shouting “just one more”. No one can stop you whether you buy a keyboard or not, so it leads to a purchase. Do-dok-do-do-dok! Along with the thrill of tapping on the keyboard, household finances worsen. There are two reasons why I usually think, ‘I want to buy that keyboard.’

The design is pretty, or the typing feel is fantastic.

mojo84 (hereinafter ‘Mojo84’) is closer to the former. Of course, that doesn’t mean the keyboard feel is bad… Well, we’ll talk about the keyboard feel later, but first, let’s talk about the design, which can be said to be the alpha and omega of Mojo 84. The product was provided by Melgeek.

Product colors were released in Neon, Retro, Pegion, and Plastic. The color names are not intuitive. However, after looking at the product closely, I realized that it was bound to be confusing. This is because complex colors that are difficult to name as black and red are incorporated into one product. This is especially true of the plastic color I chose.

Since this color is the only product collaborated with Burger Works, the detailed design is different from other colors. If you look at the top, bottom, left, and right side dishes, you can see playful phrases engraved on them. For example things like this.

“this is plastic”

“No photo

“NOT for resale”

If you look closely inside the housing, it also says ‘Need keyboard not friend’. Does this represent the feelings of keyboard enthusiasts? It’s extreme. No matter how important your keyboard is, it’s probably not more important than your friends. I agree that even if a friend betrays me for money, fame, or love, the keyboard won’t do that.

The font is big and thick. It is large, like a font for seniors. Still, it’s cute. The overall keyboard design looks complicated, but the large fonts are arranged in an orderly manner in the center of the keycaps, so it doesn’t feel cluttered. It looks like a group of playful elementary school students gathered in unison on the playground to receive the ordinance. The main color is white, with highlights given in light mint and dark orange. Even the transparent housing has a subtle mint color. Like it.

Weight is 950g. It’s not as light as you think. It’s not particularly heavy, so I have no complaints. The edges are rounded so it is not dangerous and is as cute as a toy.

It is equipped with a 4,000 mAh battery and can be used for up to 3,000 hours if the LED is not used. It supports all three methods: Bluetooth, wired, and 2.4G, and can connect to up to 8 devices via Bluetooth. 8 generations? If you ask me what’s the point of connecting so much, I have nothing to say. Still, wouldn’t more be better than less?

When viewed from the side, the keycap height and shape are slightly different. This is an ergonomically designed MDA profile keycap. Thanks to this, you can move your fingers and wrists efficiently and naturally when typing.

Using a hot-swap board, you can easily replace a switch with another switch when you get tired of it. At this level, it can be said that everything keyboard enthusiasts want has been included. I can’t call myself a keyboard geek, but I’m far below the level of many experts, so I can’t ask for anything more than this. Mojo 84 is too much for me.

The only thing that bothers the couple is the price. $219! It is a price that includes everything you need. If you really like the design of the Mojo 84 and must purchase it, you can also buy the slightly cheaper Mojo 68. You can buy it for as low as $159.

Now let’s talk about the most important feeling. The switch I chose was the Kyle Pixel L switch (this is a switch released along with the Melgeek Pixel keyboard in December 2022). The repulsion force is not strong, so you can type lightly, and the key pressure is about 40g, but it feels lower. It was a bit awkward for someone like me who is not used to switches with low key pressure. Because it is a linear product, the sound is quiet, but it has a ‘multi-faceted’ sound that will easily attract attention if used in an office. A switch that cannot be purchased unless it is an office where one person uses a mechanical keyboard. I recommend using it alone at home because the sound catches your ear like a whisper in a quiet movie theater.

There may be some people who don’t know much about mechanical keyboards, so I’ll add some basic explanation. When considering the type of mechanical keyboard, it usually refers to the type of switches. Switches can be divided into three types: linear, tactile, and clicky. If it presses smoothly without any clicking sensation, it is a linear switch (red axis, black axis). The noisy blue keyboard that can be easily seen in PC rooms is classified as clicky, and the gray keyboard that is vaguely placed in between is classified as tactile.

Another thing I liked about Mojo 84 was that the ‘stabilizer’ was very well maintained. The stabilizer is a device that goes into long keys such as the space bar/shift key. It is a device that helps ensure equal input no matter which part of the key is pressed, and depending on how well the ‘stabilization’ is held, it leads to brand trust that ‘this house is good’. For a Korean restaurant, the side dishes are excellent. Stabilization is not everything, but it is something that can never be ignored. Not all expensive keyboards have good stabilization, so I was satisfied with the Mojo 84.

I was able to use the Mojo pad along with the Mojo 84. Likewise, it supports three types of connection: wired, wireless, and 2.4G, and since it is a hot-swap board, the switch can be easily replaced. The switch was chosen as a Kyle Box plastic switch. It’s an ordinary linear switch with nothing particularly bad or particularly good about it. The key pressure is 38g, which is lighter than that of the Kyle Pixel L, but I didn’t feel a big difference. The price is $89. Since I use a full-array keyboard, I don’t need a separate number pad keyboard, but I guess I’ll use it someday when I move to a tenkeyless keyboard.

The most important thing in a keyboard is the switches. In other words, if you buy a keyboard with a pretty design that supports hot swapping, it will be the keyboard of your life. All you have to do is change the switch at any time. But I know this is theoretical. Because geeks are always excited to have a new keyboard when they see it. There’s a mechanical keyboard expo in January next year, so I’ll have to go there sometime.
