Mojang says no to NFT’s Minecraft

Want to ensure a “safe” experience.

NFT, a technology that is supposed to guarantee exclusive ownership of digital things, has been quite the talk in the gaming world during the year. Not infrequently, NFTs have been criticized by ordinary gamers, at the same time that game makers see the chance to make big money from something that in itself does not affect gaming experiences.

Mojang and Minecraft in any case definitely say no to NFT’s. In an article on official Minecraft– the site the team feels compelled, after community feedback, to clarify where they stand on the issue.

In our Minecraft Usage Guidelines, we outline how a server owner can charge for access, and that all players should have access to the same functionality. We have these rules to ensure that Minecraft remains a community where everyone has access to the same content. NFTs, however, can create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with our Guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft.

The decision is intended to ensure that Minecraft should be one “safe and inclusive experience”. NFT’s would go against “Minecraft-andan” and pave the way for an unfair game plan, says Mojang.

Furthermore, it is said that the initiative takes the focus away from playing and enjoying the game itself.

The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering, which we think is inconsistent with the long-term joy and success of our players.
