Mohelnice’s 11-year-old talent Matěj Plšek wowed sold-out O2 arena

Matěj Plšek from Mohelnice has been giving concerts for about two years. He plays with his father and two of his friends. He’s by far the youngest in the band—he’s only eleven years old.

However, his talent is undeniable. This May he won the Voice of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia 2022 competition. In addition to first place in his age category, he also became the overall winner in modern singing.

But this success was only the beginning of Matěj’s stellar season. The highlight was a double performance in front of fifteen thousand people in the O2 arena. It all started innocently enough.

“The band Mirai has held a competition for tickets and to meet them. I won the tickets and this match,” Matěj explains.

On Thursday 15 September he went to Prague. In a meeting with the band, he showed how he can play. His performance impressed the band so much that they invited the young musician on stage.

“It was about an hour before the concert. I don’t even want to remember the moment when they offered it to me and I had to make a decision. I was terribly afraid. I couldn’t even say yes. I wanted to go, but I was afraid, because I knew the photos from the O2 arena, when there are a lot of people,” says the young Mohelničan.

Confident singing and ukulele

He nodded to the band’s offer. She performed and sang the Yahoda song perfectly in front of a sold out O2 arena. The audience gave him a standing ovation. Ultimately, the performance was a great experience for him. Because it all happened so fast, it felt a bit like a dream.

“When I went on stage, everything fell out of me. However, I didn’t see anyone, only the front row,” says the singer and musician.

At performances, he looks pleasantly self-confident and literally glows with positive energy. He sings to the accompaniment of a ukulele, a small four-string instrument similar to a guitar.

He already has experience with it from before, started playing it again this spring. “I wonder too,” she replies when asked how she mastered the ukulele so quickly and so well.

He did another concert with Mirai.

“My first performance was so successful that Mirai invited me to the second concert, where they put together a whole band of my peers,” says the schoolboy from Mohelnice.

Breakfast with Nova and concerts throughout the Czech Republic

The TV Nova production also took part in the concert of the Mirai band. She was impressed by Matěj’s performance, so she invited him to Breakfast with Nova. He performed in Barrandová’s studio on the last Monday of October.

“It was great there, I really enjoyed it, apart from getting up early at four in the morning. The surprise was that Mirai came to sing with me,” adds recent holder of the talented title Mohelnický.

He would also like to pursue music in the future.

“After the O2 arena, our concerts took off a lot. Before we performed only in and around Mohelnice, Olomouc at the most, so we did three concerts a year. Now we have more. We played in Prague, we will play in Brno , then we will have some corporate events,” he calculates.

Which star would you still like to play with?

“I’ve never thought of it that way. Maybe, if I had to choose, with Ewa Farna. But otherwise I prefer concerts with my own band,” concludes the talented musician.
