Mohammad Yunus heads the interim government of Bangladesh

Dhaka > Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus will head Bangladesh’s interim government. Bangladesh has been in political limbo since the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina’s government in a popular uprising. President Mohammad Shahabuddin dissolved Parliament on Tuesday, paving the way for new elections in the country. Army chief Waqar Usman had announced that an interim government would be established.

The position of the “anti-discrimination student movement” that led the protest was that they would not accept the military rule or the government supported by the military and that they should form an interim government with Mohammad Yunus as the chief adviser with leaders student movement at his official residence.

This morning Bangladesh Press Secretary Joynal Abedin announced the decision of Mohammad Yunus to be the director. The decision was made at a meeting that included military commanders, organizers of student protests, business leaders and members of civil society.
