Cricket fans were very disappointed to hear the news that star pacer Mohammad Shami will not play in the 2024 edition of IPL. The Gujarat Titans star pacer was humbled by an injury sustained during the World Cup.
The player was undergoing treatment after suffering an ankle injury during the 2023 World Cup. News agency PTI reports quoting BCCI sources that he needs surgery.
Not only the IPL, the star might miss the 2024 T20 World Cup as well.
But there are reports that the star will return to cricket through the upcoming Border – Gavaskar Trophy. This is reported by PTI.
The Kangaroos will host the India Australia Test series in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. This series has the distinction of having a five-match series for the first time since 1992 in BGT. Cricket Australia has also announced the venues for this.
Perth will be the venue for the first Test of the series. Tests two and three will be played in Adelaide and Brisbane respectively, while the fourth Test will be played in Melbourne and the fifth in Sydney.
Shami performed well in the 2023 Border – Gavaskar Trophy at the India venue. The player took nine wickets from three matches. The fans firmly believe that the star will make a comeback and perform well in BGT 2024-25 after recovering from injury.
The competition will be played from November 2024 to January 2025. After the World Test Championship final, India and Australia will meet again in the red ball format in the Border – Gavaskar Trophy.
Meanwhile, Shami’s absence has dealt a huge blow to Gujarat Titans. Gill, who took over the captaincy after Hardik Pandya’s departure from the team, also suffered a huge setback not having Shami’s wealth of experience.
Shami took 24 wickets in just seven matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Shami also managed to take a record seven wickets in the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. After this, the actor also received the Arjuna Award.
