Mohamed Salah leave Egyptian National Team and return to Liverpoolafter suffering an injury in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The 31-year-old star was criticized.
Ahmed Hassan, legend of the Egyptian national team, criticized Salah’s decision to return to Liverpool in the midst of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which was still underway. According to him, it could have been a Liverpool doctor who came to treat him.
“I have always supported Salah, and I am very happy with his presence as captain of the Egyptian national team,” Hassan told the Mirror.

“I don’t have a problem with what he said, but it turns out he is planning his departure from Egypt. Do AFCON regulations allow a player to leave the national team and come back? Someone from Liverpool’s medical staff will accompany him during the competition,” he said.
Hassan, who has led Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations four times, also touched on Salah’s status as team captain. The former Chelsea, Fiorentina and AS Roma player is considered to have to accompany the team under any circumstances.
“Again, he is the captain. He has to stay with the team no matter what, even if he only has one leg to stand on. He even said himself that this is the Egyptian national team, not Salah’s national team, and that’s true. We have “confidence in all the players there and they have to fight to win the title,” he criticized.
Salah, who has yet to win any titles for Egypt, was injured in the match against Ghana in the middle of last week. He suffered a hamstring injury, and chose to return to Liverpool to treat the injury, instead of remaining with the Egyptian national team during his treatment.
From 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt has only collected 2 points from two draws in Group B. The Pharaohs are now in second place with 2 points, behind Cape Verde (6) and only ahead of Ghana and Mozambique (1). Egypt’s decisive match will be held against Cape Verde, Tuesday (23/1/2024).
