Ihattaren suddenly spotted: midfielder present at a match in the Eredivisie

Mohamed Ihattaren was a notable presence at the match between Almere City and Ajax on Sunday afternoon. ESPN showed the midfielder taking a seat in the stands while his old employer took on Almere. It is the first time in a long time that Ihattaren has appeared in public.
The Utrecht native could be found among the home supporters of Almere. It is not clear for what reason Ihattaren is present at the match. Nothing is known about a possible return to football for the left foot.
Ajax is one of Ihattaren’s former employers. He had been under contract with the Amsterdam team for less than a year, for which he only played one match. That was a substitute appearance in the lost cup final against PSV in 2022.
Ihattaren also played five times on behalf of Jong Ajax. He was emphatically convincing in those matches. For example, the midfielder scored a hat-trick against VVV Venlo.
It is currently unclear whether Ihattaren is even thinking about returning as a footballer. De Utrechter has been without a club since August, when his contract with Juventus was terminated. For a while it seemed that Ihattaren would start working in Turkey at Samsunspor.
The youth international reached a personal agreement on a four-year contract with the Süper Lig club, but an employment contract ultimately did not materialize because Ihattaren came up with unrealistic additional demands.
The last time there was news about Ihattaren, it was reporting about the forced sale of his house in Vleuten. Two bailiffs seized his home in August because the 21-year-old Utrechter did not respond to several payment reminders. The mansion in Vleuten is now being auctioned.
