Mohamed Ibrahim: Syria did not receive help from Europe, as Turkey did

In addition to neighboring Turkey, Syria was also very seriously affected by the strong earthquake a week ago. However, the aid situation there was much more complicated due to the problems in the country. In Syria, airports are working, planes are landing, but access to the country is still difficult to provide aid to the victims.

“It depends on where the aid comes from. If we talk about the countries that have sent aid and planes so far, access is not difficult. The planes land directly in Damascus, Aleppo and Latakia. It is not an excuse that there is no access to Syria. So far about 20- other countries have sent aid – India, Iran, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Venezuela, Russia, China, Pakistan, Lebanon, Tunisia…” said the chairman of the Association of Syrians in Bulgaria, Mohamed Ibrahim, in “Bulgaria Morning”.

He pointed out that Syria did not receive help from Europe, as Turkey did.

“These are not accusations, but facts. No one criticizes why Turkey is being helped. The problem is why Syria is not being helped. It really is not being helped and it is because of the sanctions that have been imposed unilaterally by the USA, and Brussels complies with them “Even before this earthquake, Syria was dying and the world was not paying attention. There is no electricity, fuel, the quality of life is very low, the humanitarian disaster was already there before the earthquake,” said Mohamed Ibrahim.

According to him, many survivors died due to lack of care and medicine.

“Here we are talking about human life, a disaster, it should not have been reacted like this, planes should have left immediately for Turkey and Syria. Then all other considerations fall. We cannot say that we all rushed to save Turkey. These rescue teams must to arrive immediately, because human life can change every hour,” said the chairman of the Association of Syrians in Bulgaria.

Ibrahim added that “the earthquake does not differentiate between people, it hits a geographical area. “For me, the masks are falling – European values, democracy, what are they telling me about? What are human rights when the children have died and there is no one to save them?” he asked Bulgaria ON AIR.

According to him, the problem lies in political will. “I know that the entire Bulgarian people are helping, I am amazed, I know the Bulgarian people very well, I am delighted with the reaction of the Bulgarian people to Turkey and Syria. I am sure that the Bulgarian government is doing everything possible. We appeal to the whole world to drop everything, the Syrian people are dying,” Mohammed Ibrahim concluded.
