The Villa Albertine finds a new director in the person of diplomat Mohamed Bouabdallah, who takes up his duties at the start of 2024, as advisor for cooperation and cultural action in New York.
Mohamed Bouabdallah has been appointed new cultural advisor in the United States in charge of Villa Albertine and cultural services. He replaces Gaëtan Bruel, in office for four years, who last October became Deputy Director in the office of the Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal.
Excellent news at the start of the year: appointment of @MBouabdallahONE as director of the @Villa_Albertine & cultural services @FranceintheUS. A diplomat of action, passionate about the arts, he has already been Cultural Advisor in Cairo. Happy and looking forward to what’s next!

Mohamed Bouabdallah, from Cairo to New York
“Diplomat of action, passionate about the arts”, this is how his predecessor Gaëtan Bruel defines him. At 45, Mohamed Bouabdallah was stationed in Egypt as cultural advisor and director of the French Institute between 2016 and 2019, before returning to Paris as deputy director of political affairs at the Quai d’Orsay. This arrival in New York for one of the most coveted positions in French soft power comes after the refusal, last summer, of the Burkinabe authorities to approve his appointment as new French ambassador to Burkina Faso. A decision which in no way reflects the skills of the diplomat but above all crystallizes the tensions between the two countries. France has still not been able to replace the former ambassador, Luc Hallade, whose departure was demanded by the ruling junta at the end of 2022.
