Moeldoko’s Absence at AHY’s Inauguration Raises Questions

Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono alias AHY responds to his inauguration which was not attended by the Chief of Presidential Staff (KSP) Moeldoko.

“Wow,” said AHY at the Ministry of ATR/BPN, South Jakarta, Wednesday (21/2).

AHY was reluctant to answer in detail regarding Moeldoko’s absence at the Palace.

He said that currently he is focused on continuing the work of the ATR/BPN Ministry that Hadi Tjahjanto left behind.

Hadi was replaced by President Joko Widodo as coordinating minister for politics, law and security (Menko Polhukam), replacing Mahfud MD who resigned.

The two of them were jointly inaugurated by Jokowi at the State Palace this afternoon. After the inauguration, Agus and Hadi came together to the ATR/BPN Ministry to hand over their positions.

“Hopefully in the last eight months I can continue what he (Hadi Tjahjanto) started and carry out well,” said AHY.

“There are achievement targets, including how we can complete the 120 million target in the field of Complete Systematic Land Registration (PTSL). Then, electronic certification and remaining dispute issues,” he continued.

Moeldoko was not seen at the State Palace during AHY’s inauguration. In fact, many Advanced Indonesia Cabinet ministers were present at the inauguration of AHY and Hadi.

Several ministers who were seen attending were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.

Then, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi, and Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas.

Moeldoko and AHY are two opposing figures as a result of the internal chaos in the Democratic Party. Moeldoko was elected as general chairman of the Democratic Party via the Extraordinary Congress (KLB) of the Democratic Party on March 5 2021.

The KLB was initiated by a number of Democratic politicians who did not agree with AHY’s leadership. Some of the figures behind the KLB are Marzuki Alie and Jhoni Allen.

The chaos escalated and entered the realm of law. However, the Supreme Court (MA) rejected Moeldoko’s appeal regarding the Democratic management on October 3 2022. Even though Moeldoko had submitted a review (PK), the Supreme Court rejected it again on August 10 2023.

AHY’s leadership in the Democrats continues. The son of the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) brought the Democrats into the Advanced Indonesia Coalition supporting Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 elections.
