With the MCL figures added, the number of positive tests this week is ten

LEEUWARDEN – The report that five employees and one patient of the Leeuwarden Medical Center (MCL) has been diagnosed with the corona virus this week has led to a modest revival of the corona figures in Friesland.
With the MCL figures added, the number of positive tests this week is ten. It is the first time in three weeks that the number of corona infections has returned to double digits. If the outbreaks at both the MCL and at the beginning of May at the asylum seekers center in Sneek are not taken into account, Friesland has been showing a very limited increase in the number of positive tests for more than seven weeks. Relaxation of the test policy did not lead to increases during that period.
GGD Fryslân received phone calls this week from people who have recently been in the MCL and are wondering whether they should be tested now. The same applies to them, just like everyone else: those who have mild complaints that may indicate corona (coughing, colds) are advised to get tested. This can be done via the national number 0800-1202.
Via this number, 1,563 people visited the three Frisian test locations this week. That’s double last week. Of the people who have now heard the results, only four turned out to have the virus. This is consistent with last week’s picture.
Although hardly any new cases are emerging, the virus is still active, as the MCL outbreak also shows. It therefore remains important to quickly detect and contain the virus. Only then can the relaxation of government measures be further implemented. The advice to wash hands, keep your distance and stay at home in case of complaints and then request a test remain in full force.
This week, just like last week, one deceased person was reported to the GGD for whom corona was diagnosed. One hospitalization was passed on. No new corona infection was found in nursing and care homes for the fourth week in a row.
The number of people in whom corona has been diagnosed is now at 604 (in addition to ten this week, another person was reported who had already tested positive in April). 69 deaths were reported to the GGD in whom the virus was found.
