Moderna’s vaccine presents a new adverse effect

Since the coronavirus vaccination campaign began, Spanish health authorities have reported a total of 24,491 cases of reactions adverse effects in people who had been inoculated with one of the authorized sera: Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Janssen and Moderna.

From them, 2,850 have been related to people who received the latter drug. This is how the sixth report of Pharmacovigilance on COVID-19 Vaccines published on Tuesday by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS).

New effects

In addition, the document explains that the prospectus of Moderna’s vaccine should incorporate diarrhea and delayed-onset local reactions as possible effects adverse. The most commonly reported events continue to be general disorders (fever and pain in the vaccination area), of the nervous system (headache and dizziness) and of the musculoskeletal system (myalgia and arthralgia).

On the global situation in Spain until May 30, the AEMPS indicates that 26,227,825 doses of serum had been administered, which corresponded to a total of 17,761,507 people. 70% received Comirnaty (Pfizer); 19% Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca); 9% Modern; and 2% Janssen.

Of the total of adverse reactions, 4,659 were classified as serious. A total of 13.414 reports of side effects were from people immunized with Pfizer; 2.850 with Modern; 8,082 with AstraZeneca; Y 20 with Janssen.

The AstraZeneca case

The remedy that has created the most controversy has undoubtedly been AstraZeneca. Now, the AEMPS has contraindicated the second puncture in people who have suffered from thrombosis syndrome with thrombocytopenia (TTS) after the first dose. Likewise, its administration is not recommended in people with history of systemic capillary leakage syndrome (CFS).
