Moderna withdraws 764,900 doses of its vaccine against Covid-19 in Europe

Modern reverse gear with a lot. The US company has withdrawn 764,900 units of its Covid-19 vaccine, manufactured by Rovi, after a vial was found contaminated by a foreign body. Even so, no safety problems have been identified, as explained by the biotech company in a statement.

These batches with a foreign body were distributed in Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden from January 13 to 14, 2022. For its part, Rovi explained that the contamination was found in a single vial and that the entire batch was being withdrawn “as a precaution”.

The company has not disclosed what was found in these batches.. Moderna does not believe that this incident poses a risk to other vials and does not expect that this “will not affect the benefit/risk profile of the vaccine.”

In August, Moderna and Rovi already suffered an incident of similar circumstances after finding “anomalous” substances in one of the batches received in Japan. A day later, the Asian country did not find any health problems in patients inoculated with the vaccine and that were related to the contamination detected in a batch of doses from Spain.

Most of the blocked batches had been distributed in mass vaccination centers in Japan, companies and other bodies in charge of inoculationand part of the vaccines had already been used in patients.

Even so, Moderna intends to strengthen its alliance in Spain. American biotech plans to conclude 2022 by manufacturing 500 million doses of its anti-Covid-19 vaccineas confirmed by Juan Carlos Gil, General Manager of Moderna in Spain and Portugal.
