Moderna requests FDA authorization for booster covid-19 vaccine for all adults

Cnn in Spanish

(CNN) – Moderna announced Wednesday that it has requested “the emergency use authorization (US) of its covid-19 booster vaccine at the dose level of 50 [microgramos] for all adults 18 years of age or older to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ”.

“On October 20, the FDA authorized for emergency use a booster dose of Moderna’s covid-19 vaccine at the 50 µg dose level for people 65 years of age and older; people aged 18 to 64 at high risk of severe covid-19; and people 18 to 64 years of age with frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2, ”the company said in a press release.

Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine (the two doses in the primary series) is currently licensed for emergency use in people 18 years of age and older in the United States. The vaccine is not approved by the FDA for any age group.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is scheduled to meet this Friday to discuss Pfizer’s covid-19 vaccine booster dose recommendation for all adults.

The FDA is expected to make a decision on authorizing booster doses of that vaccine – and perhaps now Moderna’s as well – before Friday’s meeting of CDC advisers.
