Moderna in Peru: Digemid grants conditional health registration to a vaccine against COVID-19 | Digemid NMR | PERU

The General Directorate of Medicines, Supplies and Drugs (Digemid) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) granted the conditional health registration (RSC) for the importation of the vaccine against COVID-19 SPIKEVAX, known as Moderna, and that can be applied to people 6 years of age and older.

The RSC, granted for a period of one year, will allow the distribution and sale of the vaccine developed by the American pharmaceutical company Moderna and which is currently produced in various laboratories in the United States, Europe and Asia.

The government of President Pedro Castillo announced last year that it had signed an agreement with the Moderna pharmaceutical company to acquire 15 million doses of vaccines that will arrive in 2022, although to date the date of the arrival of said doses has not been reported.

Vaccines against COVID-19 developed by Pfizer, Sinopharm and Astrazeneca laboratories are currently applied in Peru. Last year Digemid also granted an RSC to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, but Peru has not purchased such vaccines so far.

The RSC for Moderna is known in the midst of criticism of the current management of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) due to the upcoming expiration of up to 4 million doses of vaccines against COVID-19, according to the Comptroller General of the Republic.

By granting permission, Digemid invited health professionals to closely monitor this new vaccine and report suspected adverse reactions through the Peruvian Pharmacovigilance and Technovigilance System.

About the Modern vaccine

SPIKEVAX 0.20 mg/mL vaccine is administered intramuscularly, in persons 12 years of age and older, a series of 2 doses of 100and (0.5 mL each) and in children 6 to 11 years of age, 2 doses of 50and (0.25 mL each).
