Moderna asks in the US for authorization of its anticovid vaccine for children under 6 years of age

Pharmaceutical company Moderna has asked the US health authorities for emergency authorization of its vaccine against covid-19 for children under 6 years of age, the company announced in a statement on Thursday.

Moderna thus becomes the first pharmaceutical company to ask the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that its vaccine can be used in the smallest, from six months to six years.

According to the note, the company will finalize its request next week.

Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said in a statement that its mRNA-1273 vaccine “will be able to safely protect these children against SARS-CoV-2.”

On March 23, Moderna announced that its vaccine against covid-19 worked in babies and children in this age range and has already announced that it would request the authorization of reduced doses of 25 micrograms from the FDA.
