“Modern Slavery on the Rise: India Tops G-20 Countries, Global Report Finds”

New York: Modern slavery is on the rise worldwide. The global slavery index was released on May 24 by the human rights organization Walk Free. According to the report, 50 million people are victims of slave labor in 2021 alone.

According to the report, India has the highest rate of slave labor among the G-20 countries. According to the report, 11 million people are victims of slave labor in India. Among the other G-20 countries, the figures are China-five million, Russia-1.8 million, Indonesia-1.8 million, Turkey 1.3 million, and the United States- 1.1 million.

Slave labor is now 10 million more than the five-year figure. The report noted that slavery is on the rise in the context of armed conflicts, widespread environmental degradation and the effects of Covid-19.

Modern slavery includes forced labor, forced marriage, debt bondage, servitude, acts similar to slavery, and human trafficking.

“Modern slavery is not visible. But it is related to the lives of people in every corner of the world. “Every day, people are tricked, coerced or exploited into doing things they don’t want to do,” the report said.

Figures show that 27.6 million people are victims of forced labor and 22 million are victims of forced marriage. 1 in 150 people in the world are victims of forced marriage every day.

North Korea, Eritrea, and Mauritania are among the most affected countries. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE and Kuwait are also included in the top ten.

‘These countries share certain political, social and economic factors that provide only limited protection for civil liberties and human rights.

And some countries have witnessed insurgency, political instability and dictatorship. In some countries, governments are forcing citizens to work in different sectors and in prisons,’ the report said.
