The early detection of breast cancer is of vital importance to determine the treatment and recovery of those affected.
According to reports from the Ministry of Health, cancer is currently the second leading cause of death at the national level, however, in some regions of the country it is already the first, surpassing causes related to the circulatory system. It is projected that during the next decade it will be established as the main cause of death in Chile and it is expected that this change will affect women first and constitute the first cause of death. In this sense, the mayor of Tucapel Jaime Veloso affirmed that progress is being made in different instances. Among these, he highlighted that it was recently communicated to leaders, users and residents of the commune that the Embassy of Japan in Chile approved the resources for the acquisition of a modern mammography machine, which will work in the premises of the Cesfam Family Health Center in Tucapel.
THE EXAMS
The instrument, valued at 70 million pesos, was managed by the first communal authority, with the support of the Planning Secretariat and the Municipal Health Department. It will work with a medical technologist, who will take the exams at Cesfam Tucapel, and then refer them to a radiologist to prepare the technical report.
Mayor Veloso expressed his joy at the arrival of the mammographer, and highlighted the reception that the project had at the Embassy of Japan.
He recalled that it could not be obtained with resources from the Regional Government or with sectoral funds; and added that its acquisition will allow early detection of pathologies such as breast cancer, which will have a favorable effect on its treatment and cure. “The resources will arrive shortly, and the respective tender will proceed, which will imply equipping a room in Cesfam with all the necessary requirements,” he said.
TUCAPEL AND OTHER COMMUNES
Fabiola Soto, director of the Community Health Department, appreciated that a small commune like Tucapel can count on a team of this nature, as it helps to decentralize care in this area. “We are the communal head of the Antuco-Quilleco-Huépil-Tucapel strategic unit; and therefore we will be able to provide care, not only to our women, but to those of these neighboring mountain communities ”, he explained.
On the other hand, the leader Bárbara Sanhueza, from the city of Tucapel, stressed that the mammographer will save on trips to Los Angeles to carry out this type of exams, which is particularly complicated in times of pandemic.
Next March, the contract will be signed between the Japanese ambassador and Mayor Veloso, to proceed with the administrative procedures aimed at having the mammographer.
