Next Thursday June 1 at 8:00 am Bogotá Auctions will auction more than 90 works of modern and contemporary Colombian and Latin American art. All those interested in participating can do so from anywhere in Colombia or the world. The exhibition of the pieces is open to the public, with free admission, free of charge, from Monday to Friday from eleven in the morning to six in the afternoon and on Saturday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The catalog includes a wide range of pieces that covers artistic trends, the most significant genres and authors in the history of art from the last century and from the first two decades of the 21st century.
“Among the highlights are three pieces by Alejandro Obregón – the important engraving “Palombes”, the iconic oil painting “Samotracia Andina” and the exceptional stained glass window “Gallo” – along with a complex and refined optical-geometric composition by Sara Modiano and a monumental oil painting by Carlos Rojas from the “Cruzados” series. The sculpture section is very relevant, where a stone piece from the early days of Édgar Negret (“Sleeping Woman”), a rare work by Feliza Bursztyn and a very representative large-scale work by Jim Amaral (“Twice it rolls”), mentions Charlotte Pieri, director of Bogotá Auctions and auction hammer.
The auction also has three pieces by Luis Caballero that “represent the main stages of his career, with beautiful expressionist works by Nirma Zárate and Luis Fernando Roldán and with distinguished examples of the art of first-rate creators such as Beatriz González, Santiago Cárdenas, Enrique Grau, Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar, John Castles, Álvaro Barrios, Emma Reyes, David Manzur and Juan Antonio Roda.”
Among the first batches, a very fine graphite portrait of President Carlos Eugenio Restrepo, made in a brilliant academic style, by Francisco Antonio Cano, stands out.
In the 10’s and 20’s of the last century, Restrepo and Cano both belonged to the influential generation of intellectuals and politicians called “of the centenary”. There was also a notable exchange of letters between them. It is, therefore, not only a high-quality drawing, but also an important document for the cultural and political history of Colombia.
another significant piece is a delicate and luminous watercolor landscape from 1950 signed by Humberto Chaveswho is recognized, among other things, for having been one of the teachers of Antioquian artists of the caliber of Rafael Sáenz and Pedro Nel Gómez, who are also represented in the catalogue.
The invitation is to actively participate in the Auction and also to visit the exhibition of the works at the Bogotá Auctions headquarters, open to the public from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and on Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm at Calle 70 # 10A – 59. Admission is free, there is no cost.
Remember to connect to the live signal of the HJCK, the art of listening.
