Moderate Snowfall Expected in New York City and Surroundings this Weekend

For the second time this week, New York City and its surroundings will see snow, although this time with more moderate accumulations.

A cold front is expected to arrive this Friday night and early Saturday, bringing snow and sleet.

The National Weather Service estimates that the accumulation may vary between one and three inches for the tri-state area.

The presence of winter precipitation will begin around 10:00 at night and will last until dawn.

“By 2:00 in the morning it will be snowing widely throughout the City,” explained Stephanie Viés, meteorologist for Los Guardianes del Tiempo.

“Although we will see the heaviest snow towards the south, areas such as Elizabeth, Edison, Staten Island, the southern coast of Brooklyn and Queens and as we move north the intensity will decrease,” he added.

The Weather Service estimates that in the Central Park area there will be about 2 inches of snow, while in some areas of Queens the accumulation will be close to 3 inches.

Despite the overnight precipitation, Saturday will have cold but clear conditions with highs of 38 and lows of 26 degrees Fahrenheit.

“A large part of the models show us that we will be around 2 inches of accumulation and it will begin to retreat around 6:00 in the morning and by 8:00 it will be retreating,” Viés explained.

The snowfall last Tuesday left accumulations in Manhattan of 3.2 inches, although some areas of New Jersey exceeded a foot in height.
