[아시아경제 이춘희 기자] The vaccine developed by the US pharmaceutical company Modena is expected to become the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine that has been approved for use in Europe after the Pfizer-Bioentech vaccine.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced on the 6th (local time) that it has decided to recommend conditional sales of Modena’s COVID-19 vaccine.

EMA’s Committee on Human Medicines (CHMP), after a thorough evaluation of data on the quality, safety, and effectiveness of the vaccine, decided to recommend that the European Union (EU) Commission permit conditional marketing.

After that, when the final official approval decision is made by the EU Commission, each EU member state can begin vaccination.

“This vaccine will be another tool for us to overcome the current emergency,” said EMA Commissioner Emma Cook. “Not a year after the World Health Organization’s Pandemic Declaration, “It is thanks to everyone’s hard work and dedication that we have secured a positive recommendation.”

He added, “We will continue to protect EU citizens by closely monitoring the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.”

Earlier, on the 21st of last month, the EU Commission approved a COVID-19 vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer, a US pharmaceutical company, and Bioentech, Germany. Subsequently, member states started full-scale vaccination on the 27th of the same month.

According to the current Modena vaccine, the final analysis of the Phase 3 clinical trial showed that the vaccine was 94.1% effective. Modena vaccine, like Pfizer-Bioentech, was developed using’messenger ribonucleic acid’ (mRNA) containing the genetic information of the virus. Storage is possible.
