Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The model project “Cooperation between schools and after-school care centers” has started in Saxony-Anhalt. 30 of these tandems from primary schools and daycare centers have started their work, the Ministry of Education announced on Thursday in Magdeburg, which launched the project together with the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health and Equality. It was said that more than a hundred schools and after-school care centers in the country had expressed interest in the project.
The selection of the 30 duos is the first step towards holistic educational support. The closer integration of school and after-school care means an improvement in education and care – those involved now have to “further develop their cooperation on an equal footing,” it said. The aim is better all-day education, for example in the area of high-quality homework support.
According to the ministry, the tandems will receive additional funding, and the German Children and Youth Foundation will support the process. If the pilot project is assessed positively, the plan is to have a further 51 tandems begin work in the 2024/2025 school year.
