The city that never sleeps stands still. Empty streets, closed shops, a ghostly atmosphere. This is how the picture of the otherwise pulsating US metropolis New York emerges. Right in the middle is Aargau top model Manuela Frey (23). She moved there when she was 16 to live her dream of glossy magazines and defilees on the catwalks. With success. For years she has been one of the most successful Swiss models. She has already posed for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior and Valentino. In Switzerland, she also moderates “Switzerland’s next top model”, the counterpart of Heidi Klum’s (46) casting show.

Because of the corona virus, people in the Big Apple are staying at home, including Manuela Frey. “We could still go out, but no one is doing it. Neither do I anymore. The pictures of the empty streets are incredible. I’ve never seen New York like this before. “

Time to think about who else she wants in her life
The thought of staying alone in the big city was not easy for her: “I wrestled with myself for five days. Of course, I would prefer to be with my family in Switzerland. But I’ve heard that people from Europe will probably not be able to travel to the USA again until after the summer. That was too delicate for me for my work, which mainly takes place here, ”says Frey. “It was the hardest decision of my life.”

She, who has been the sunshine of the industry for years, likes to laugh, it remains positive now too. “I’m doing well. I’ll make the best of the situation. ” To stay fit, she climbs up and down the 34 floors of her apartment block twice a day. “Because the gym and the pool in the house are closed.”

She is learning to play the guitar, improving her Italian and making calls to her family and friends up to 15 times a day. “I now have a lot of time, all jobs have been canceled for the time being. I think a lot, also about which people I still want in my life and which I don’t. I am not afraid and use the moments as constructively as possible. “
