Two beautiful young girls are seen walking with their suitcases into the area of Ezeiza International Airport, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sunday, December 13, 2009. Both of them walk gracefully like a mannequin above catwalk. The presence of the two model girls caught the attention of airport visitors, of course also the glances of the men’s eyes.
The two girls in their 20s are likely to be traveling abroad. At first everything seemed fine. But their steps were stopped when both suitcases were inserted into the scanner which showed a strange signal on the contents. Plus, the eyes of the airport staff were full of suspicion on the faces of the two girls.
The two girls protested when they were asked to go to a special room to be examined. Not long after, the airport police or Policia de Seguridad Aeroporturia (PSA) arrived. They then took their passports, and it was discovered that each named Maria Noel Lopez and Ariel Leticia came from Argentina.
Then the airport police searched the suitcases of both of them. Not long after, several suspicious neat packages were found. The package is stored together with cosmetic equipment. Once opened, visible white powder in it. The suspicious police immediately tested the white powder.
The results showed that the powder was positive for class 1 narcotics, namely cocaine (coke). The narcotic, which comes from the Erythroxylon Coca plant, which grows in abundance in South America, is packaged in several neat packages weighing a total of 55 kilograms (120 pounds). Its value is estimated at US$ 3.3 million or the equivalent of more than Rp. 49 billion.
Maria and Ariel’s faces, which were initially happy, turned deathly pale. Their steps to go abroad to smuggle illicit goods were uncovered. Both were then interrogated more deeply. They said they were asked to take the cocaine to Spain and Europe.
Maria and Ariel are suspected of being couriers from an international drug trafficking network. Both of them wore special rings disguised as jewelry pinned on their fingers so that it would be easy for targets or members of the drug mafia to identify them. It is also suspected that the ring was made easy for unscrupulous airport officials who would help pass the 55 kg of illegal goods he was carrying.
The two girls were innocent and the police easily managed to extract their statements. The two admitted that they were lured into taking cocaine abroad for a fee of US$ 3,000-5,000 (Rp. 44.7 million – 74.5 million). Both are models at a local agency in Argentina.
Quoted from CNN, Time and Scope, Maria and Ariel became couriers who were termed as ‘donkeys’ in a drug network led by Angie Sanclemente Valencia from Colombia. Angie is no ordinary criminal. She is known in a number of countries in the Latin American region as a photo model and fashion model for women’s underwear.
