Model and Actress Diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma
Late yesterday, renowned model, actress, and entrepreneur Christie Brinkley announced her recent diagnosis with basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer.
Through an emotional Instagram post, Brinkley detailed her experience and expressed gratitude for catching the cancer at an early stage. She shared, “The good news for me is we caught the basal cell Carcinoma early. And I had great doctors that removed the cancer and stitched me up to perfection.”
Promoting Sun Protection and Early Detection
Encouraging her fans and followers to prioritize sun protection and regular check-ups, Brinkley emphasized the importance of being diligent with practices to safeguard the skin from harmful UV rays. She admitted, “I got serious a bit late, so now for this ole mermaid/gardener, I’ll be slathering on my SPF 30, reapplying as needed, wearing long sleeves and a wide brim hat. And doing regular total body check-ups.”
Brinkley’s motivation to get an examination came from being with her daughter during a check-up. Although it wasn’t her official appointment, she sought the advice of the doctor regarding a “little tiny dot” she felt under her foundation. To her surprise, the doctor immediately determined it needed a biopsy, and the procedure was performed right away.
Understanding Basal Cell Carcinoma
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer, characterized by various symptoms including open sores, red patches, pink growths, shiny bumps, or scars. The Skin Cancer Foundation highlights that BCC is recognizable by its slightly elevated rolled edges and/or a central indentation. Thankfully, when detected early, BCC can be effectively treated.
Brinkley’s revelation serves as a reminder to prioritize skin health, urging individuals to schedule timely check-ups and promptly address any concerning signs or symptoms. She graciously concluded her post by expressing gratitude towards her doctors.
