Top model Bella Hadid (25) regrets that she had plastic surgery at the age of fourteen. She said that in an interview with Vogue† In the same interview, she spoke about the difficulties she faces in the fashion industry. “I always felt that I had no right to complain, nor to seek help.”
Hadid regrets that she had a nose job at the age of fourteen. That’s what she tells Vogue† “I wish I had kept my ancestors’ noses,” she said. “I think I would have grown into it.” According to many other rumors, a nose job would not be the only procedure the model underwent. But the 25-year-old denies. “People always have something to say, but what I have to say is that I’ve always been misunderstood in my industry and by the people around me.”
In the interview, Hadid also elaborates on the burnout she went through last year and for which she was also treated. “There were people online who said: You live this great life, so how can you complain? I always felt I had no right to complain, which meant I had no right to seek help, which was my first problem.”
During the interview, the model would also refer to “multiple childhood traumas”, but also indicated that working in the fashion industry takes its toll. While some progress has been made in the sector in recent years, she believes there is still a lot of room for improvement. “Fashion can make you or break you,” she said. “Finally girls are speaking out about sample sizes, but when I first started seven years ago, I didn’t fit in Saint Laurent. And I remember a stylist talking about my weight because I couldn’t get my zipper closed. Looking back I think, yes, because a Saint Laurent-sample size from the catwalk just wasn’t a real size for anyone. But then you think there’s something wrong with you, and no one around you says: No, no, you’re fine, don’t worry, it’s a small size.”
Hadid also spoke out about her sister and fellow model Gigi (26). “I was the uglier sister. I was the brunette. I wasn’t as cool as Gigi, not as outgoing,” she said. “And unfortunately: when you hear things so often, you just start to believe it. I always ask myself how a girl with incredible insecurities, anxiety, depression, body image issues, eating issues, who hates to be touched, who has intense social anxiety… ended up in this business. But over the years I have become a good actress.”
