Portal Twisted Voxel noticed that Take-Two Interactive and its Rockstar Games studio agreed with the modders of Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City that outraged them.
Recall that in 2021, Take-Two and Rockstar Games sued a group of developers who improved the source code of GTA III and GTA: Vice City by reverse engineering, but enthusiasts began to challenge the lawsuit.
In February 2023, the parties decided to pre-trial settlement of the dispute, and now reached an agreement. The terms of the peace deal were not disclosed, but both the modders and Take-Two will have to pay their legal fees.
Initially hit the web document “amnestied” four modders, while “remaining unnamed defendants” Take-Two did not forgive. However, later blogger Ben Turpin (Ben Turpin) noticed on another paper.
It says that Take-Two Interactive decided terminate the proceedings without prosecuting two more defendants. Turpin concludes that this court case “officially closed”.
It is assumed that the versions of GTA III and Vice City improved by modders in the eyes of Take-Two were seen as a threat to sales of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition collection, which was released at that time, with remasters of these two games and San Andreas.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was released in November 2021 on PC and consoles. Ironically, the collection disappointed fans with its performance, but pleased the publisher with sales.
