However, NVIDIA will of course find it difficult to launch the RTX 3070 with 16 GB of memory, we can rather expect a new overall better SKU, namely the promised RTX 3070 Ti, and the question is what memory equipment it can have at all. However, today we have the RTX 3070 equipped with 16 GB of memory created by the VIK-on modder. He is the same person who started at the beginning of this year modifications of older GeForce RTX 2070, which also got 16 GB of memory, but the card as a whole did not work very well afterwards. But now it should be different. –

The procedure for modifying the GeForce RTX 3070 in the GamingPro version from Palit was essentially the same. The 1GB GDDR6 memory housings were replaced with the corresponding 2GB of memory, namely the Samsung K4Z803256C-HC14 memory for the K4ZAF3258M-HC14. And it still did not go without problems.

The physical side of the whole operation went smoothly, after all, if we have the appropriate equipment and use the correct procedure, the exchange of chips in BGA packages will become a routine, unless we count even minor modifications to the card within RAMCFG setting the memory configuration using SMD resistors. It’s more a matter of trial and error in finding the right binary code that will match 2GB of memory from Samsung (here it was 00110). Even then, however, it was not done.
The card was unstable for some reason, although it was correctly detected as an RTX 3070 with 16 GB of memory. From time to time, the monitor screen simply darkened, which, surprisingly, partially addressed this when VIK-on ran two tests at once. He was able to pass the TimeSpy test, but with Furmark running in the background, which is of course far from a successful result. It could be assumed that the problem has something to do with dynamic clock control and indeed, using the clock lock with EVGA Precision X1, the problem was solved and the card gained 13783 points in 3DMark Time Spy and 4914 points in Unigine Superposition 8K Optimized.
