Mobs of Workers Burn Giant Banner of KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri in Labor Day Demonstration

Massa laborer from a number of labor organizations staged a demonstration to commemorate Labor Day in front of the MPR/DPR RI building, Jakarta. They carried a giant banner showing the face of KPK chairman Firli Bahuri.

The giant banner was then placed in the center of the mass. The mob then burned the giant banner.

This mass consists of the Federation of Indonesian Muslim Workers Unions (PPMI) and the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI). They were also seen unfurling posters on the fence of the DPR building. The contents are the demands that they voiced.

“Revoke the Job Creation Law Number 6 of 2023 and Reject the Minister of Manpower Regulation Number 5 of 2023,” the poster read.

A number of police officers were seen standing guard at the location. Traffic around the DPR building is still being diverted to special bus lanes.

President of the Indonesian Muslim Workers’ Union (PPMI) Daeng Wahidin asked Firli Bahuri to be removed from his position. This is because they think the KPK has failed to eradicate corruption.

“We ask the KPK to be serious about it, don’t be like a knife, sharp downwards blunt upwards. So small thieves are judged, big thieves are protected. This is Firli not true either. That’s why corruption is increasingly rampant, evidence that the KPK has failed to eradicate corruption,” Daeng said when met.

Firli Affirms Commitment to Eradicate Corruption

KPK chairman Firli Bahuri previously emphasized his commitment to eradicating corruption. This was conveyed by Firli when responding to a report against him regarding the issue of leaking investigative documents against the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

“My only commitment is to clean this country from corruption. Arrest and detain the suspect, whoever he is and bring him to justice,” said Firli when contacted, Thursday (6/4).

Firli emphasized that the KPK under his leadership worked professionally and indiscriminately. He will also work optimally for Indonesia.

“KPK works professionally and indiscriminately. I will complete the work of eradicating corruption until Indonesia is free from corruption,” he said.
