MobilSiegel Awards: Recognizing Companies for Climate-Friendly Corporate Mobility

Mayor Martin Horn, District Administrator Hanno Hurth and First State Official Martin Barth hand over trophies. The first companies can be recertified in 2024. The MobilSiegel has become established as an award for climate-friendly corporate mobility. Freiburger Verkehrs AG has awarded the trophy to 58 companies or administrations in the past two years. Now 28 more award winners have been added. At the award ceremony on Thursday, October 19th, Freiburg’s mayor Martin Horn, the first state official Dr. Martin Barth (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district) and District Administrator Hanno Hurth (Emmendingen district) presented the trophies and certificates.

The awarding of the MobilSiegel not only offers companies from Freiburg and the districts of Emmendingen and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald public recognition for their efforts to provide sustainable mobility offers – as a networking meeting, the event also offers those responsible for mobility the opportunity to exchange experiences with the award-winning companies of previous years.

“We are facing major challenges, be it the expansion of local public transport, the promotion of multimodal route chains or the digitalization of mobility offerings. In addition, the introduction of the Deutschland Ticket will result in changes to the fare landscape. “It is all the more important that we look for tailor-made solutions and innovative concepts together with the companies,” emphasized VAG board member Oliver Benz at the award ceremony. “The MobilSiegel rewards companies for their commitment to sustainable mobility.”

The first state official, Martin Barth, was pleased about the great interest in the award: “The growing number of applicants shows that the topic of operational mobility management is becoming more important for companies in the region. In times of a shortage of skilled workers, it not only serves to attract employees through incentives, but – as creative ideas for measures show – it is also a sign of real conviction in the need for climate protection,” explained Barth. “We are happy to honor this commitment, especially since it fits perfectly with the climate protection goals of the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district.”

District Administrator Hurth continued: “Sustainable mobility is the key to reducing transport-related CO2 emissions. We see that companies in the Emmendingen district are implementing innovative ideas and projects both in terms of commuting to work and in mobility as part of their business activities. The MobilSiegel makes these examples visible and can have a broader impact.”

The trophy, the MobilSiegel, itself is a cut piece of rail that was processed by VAG trainees. The award is also intended to serve as an incentive for companies to further advance their efforts in sustainable mobility. After three years, companies have the opportunity to be recertified. Companies that received the seal in 2021 will have this opportunity next year.

“Your commitment to sustainable mobility is not only a benefit for our city, but also a role model for other companies and cities,” said Mayor Martin Horn, emphasizing the importance of the award. “Let us emphasize together the importance of sustainable mobility for our society and continue to work to make our cities and companies fit for the future.”
