A mobilized resident of the Russian Republic of Buryatia tried to deceive the authorities in order not to fight at the front in Ukraine. Zorigto Arabzhaev was mobilized in November 2022. In the spring of 2023, he was put on leave, but then he did not return to the unit. When the military searched for him at his home, his son produced a death certificate, which later turned out to be a fake.

Military police returned to the deserter’s home and arrested him on May 4. The man is facing trial.

Arabzhaev explained that he did not want to return to the front because of his wife’s emotional state. In September 2022, his eldest son died in an accident, and two months later the man was mobilized. His wife was worried about him and threatened to kill herself if he returned to the front. That’s why Arabzhaev decided to get a fake death certificate, writes the publication sibreal.

The court emphasizes that the woman should have sought specialized medical help, and the man did not help her get it. The serviceman was found guilty of desertion and was sentenced to 5 years in prison in a common regime colony, writes Bulgaria ON AIR.
