It was CFVU day, in the offices of the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (Urca). Or the Training and University Life Commission, a body made up of teachers and students which was to decide on the new training model for the period 2024-2028.
Tuesday afternoon, around fifty teachers and learners came to tell members of the CFVU what they thought of this project which provides for the elimination of 5,000 hours for the UFR exact and natural sciences (SEN). “We are not here to block, we came peacefully to inform the CFVU participants of the consequences of this new model,” explains Robin Nevers, president of Safir-Urca, the association of computer science students in Reims, which denounces “budget cuts” and the “reduction in the hours of lessons taught”.
Among the demonstrators there were also many teachers. Like this professional degree biology teacher: “The new model predicts that I will go from 450 to 400 hours over a year. In certain sectors, it is even -15%. However, we need teaching and practical work to train mathematicians or biologists. If we take the example of maths, the students did very little during the baccalaureate years. For them to have the level and to be competitive, they have to do a lot. Deleting hours doesn’t add up. » Around 2,800 students are affected.
But above all, this member of the UFR SEN training defense collective denounces manipulation. “We made the collective decision not to validate any models, but the vice-president in charge of accreditation modified them by removing hours at random, to be able to present them to the CFVU without our knowledge, while leaving our signatures . We don’t agree, the people who did this don’t know anything about it. »
After this first mobilization, other actions are planned by the students before December 12. It is on this date that the Urca board of directors must definitively adopt the new models.
