Mobility in rural areas: an evening to initiate a shift towards the future around a documentary-debate

On the occasion of Mobility Week, an evening is being organized around the theme of soft and local mobility this Friday, September 13, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Espace de la Gare and Petit Théâtre in Argelès-Gazost. This event is proposed by the eco-citizen collective in partnership with Wimoov, the Foyers Ruraux/Espace de la Gare, and the town hall of Argelès-Gazost.

As announced by Sonia Martin, mobility advisor at the Wimoov association, which for 25 years has had the ambition to support all territories, all audiences, to act to reduce mobility precariousness, and to make inclusive mobility a pillar of the ecological transition, this documentary-debate evening will begin with a free trial of electric bikes and scooters from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Espace de la Gare and on the Voie verte. It will continue from 7:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with an aperitif offered by the Town Hall followed by a shared meal in a Spanish inn style.

Documentary on mobility

Then, from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., the documentary “Turage vers le futur, Mobilités rurales, alternatives à la voiture” produced by the Utopiens and released in December 2022 will be screened. This documentary filmed between Causses and Aubrac takes stock of mobility in rural areas and alternative solutions for traveling differently and meeting the need for energy saving.

In this rural region, travel is the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases. Six associations in Aveyron are mobilized on this subject. Together, they have decided to take concrete action by organizing events around this subject: meetings with elected officials, associations, presentations for the general public and young audiences.

Debate and exchanges

Hence the idea of ​​making a film in order to have a visual support available to them to convince and rally as many people as possible to the need to travel differently for the climate issue that concerns us all. In this documentary, we will find in particular testimonies, unusual innovations, experiments, projects on new modes of travel, incentives to change one’s habits.

To avoid the car, how to develop public transport, carpooling, shared cars, the use of bicycles, walking and the combination of all these modes.
