Mobile robots with a Styrian brain | Industrial robotics | Industry sectors

The Graz scaleup incubed IT gives autonomous robots a brain. The software enables the orientation of mobile autonomous robots in warehouses and production facilities and can be used for robots with a payload of 1.3 tons.

incubed IT was founded by seven founders who got to know each other in the “Robocup” at TU Graz. They are all still operationally on board ten years after they were founded in 2011. In all that time, the company never took on an investment – it is now part of the number 20 largest company in the US. As was recently announced, the US telecom giant Verizon bought 100 percent of the company – the parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Last year they finished with sales in the single-digit millions. And what is planned now?

“First of all, of course, the integration into the Verizon Group has to be mastered. We look forward to working with the New Business Incubation Team, which specializes in growing strategic acquisitions and integrating them into the group. At the same time, the location needs to be strengthened and the team expanded. The aim is to double the team, ”explains co-founder and Head of Business Development Michael Reip. The company currently has 32 employees.

As an independent company, you want to benefit from Verizon’s 5G strength. “And the third goal in particular makes the technician’s heart beat faster, namely the further development of our product and the use of technical synergies in the new group. 5G technology is an essential component in making the handling of mobile robots as easy as a television. We are well on the way here, but there is still a lot to be done. The success of this will be critical in order to have mobile robots in wide use worldwide, ”reports Reip. 5G should soon make it possible for customers to unpack robots “like a television set” and use them immediately. Using 5G, the necessary connections can be established without any additional hardware infrastructure.
