In the residential area in Hoef en Haag, where there were two explosions in recent weeks, there will be a temporary mobile police post. The number of enforcers will also be expanded and there will be extra camera and police surveillance in the new-build village in Utrecht.

The municipality announced this last night at a hastily arranged residents’ meeting, reports RTV Utrecht. There were about 150 people there.

Yesterday morning around 4 a.m. there was an explosion in the middle of the neighbourhood. No one was injured, but several homes were damaged. Two streets were temporarily cleared. Residents reacted with shock, especially since there was also an explosion at a house in the same neighborhood at the beginning of this month.

The police take into account that the explosions are related to a conflict in the drug environment. Because the investigation is still ongoing, mayor Sjors Fröhlich was unable to say anything more about this at the residents’ meeting. “Fortunately, people understood that. They mainly wanted to know what we are going to do to get it safe,” said the mayor.

In addition to the mobile police post and extra supervision, the new security measures also include ‘a place’ where residents can go with their questions. Whether that will be a website or a telephone number is not yet known.

The mayor cannot guarantee that this was the last explosion in Hoef and Haag. “I can only promise that we will do everything we can to prevent that.”

“There were already more police in Hoef and Haag. Research after the first explosion showed that it was mainly a threat against a specific home. That is why we closed it. But we did not see this coming,” said the mayor. referring to the second explosion.
