Kollam ∙ The State Commission for the Rights of the Child has mandated that there should be no ban on students bringing mobile phones to school. The mobile phone can be brought for some special purposes with the knowledge of the parents. The full constituency, consisting of KV president Manoj Kumar, B. Babita and Renee Antony, also suggested that school authorities should provide facilities to keep it shut down until the end of school hours.
The order concerned a petition filed by the student’s father, a native of Vadakara, Kozhikode, against the confiscation of his mobile phone by the school authorities. Body searches and purse checks, which harm children’s dignity and pride, must be avoided. There should be a plan to train people to use the internet, cell phone and social media safely. The confiscated mobile phone was also ordered to be returned to the student
