Mobile mammography treated 1,500 women in 12 communities in the country

With the “It’s Time” initiative, women received their diagnoses in less than 48 hours, with the identification of 5 people with breast cancer in early stages.

The campaign “It’s about time“He traveled to the seven provinces of the country, providing mammograms to 1500 women in less than two months and providing the results of this test to the beneficiaries in just 48 hours.

According to the companies that coordinated the initiative, the mobile mammogram traveled more than 2,500 kilometers, allowing for the early detection of breast cancer and offering a timely diagnosis to women in different areas throughout the country.

The 1,500 mammograms in 12 communities, which were part of the first phase of “Ya es Hora”, detected that 358 women required additional studies, and 15 underwent biopsies and to date have allowed the identification of five cases of early stage breast cancer (I-II), which has allowed offer treatment with curative intent.

The Director of Corporate Affairs of Montecristo Group, Monica Nagelindicated:

This initiative has allowed women like Luz Santana Hernández, diagnosed with breast cancer at an early stage, to receive timely care. Luz has already had surgery and is ready to begin her treatment. This is just one example of the positive impact we have achieved.”.

Doña Luz, a resident of San Joaquín de Flores in Heredia and beneficiary of one of the tests, mentioned:

The truth is that I come from a family that has had cancer, I was supposed to have a check-up, but due to another illness, I stopped doing it two years ago. My granddaughter was the one who saw the campaign post through a message from Medismart, and she signed me up, although I thought that because of my age (62 years old) I wouldn’t have anything. The day I had it done, that same afternoon they told me from the Metropolitan Hospital that I had to have an urgent biopsy. Everything happened too quickly and I am very grateful for that.”

The campaign organizers emphasized that one of the key factors was the speed and efficiency of the processes, since all patients who required additional studies, including ultrasounds and biopsies, were evaluated within 15 days of their initial diagnosis.

In addition, women diagnosed with breast cancer are being treated at the Metropolitan Hospital Cancer Centerwith the support of the Foundation FUNDto ensure their access to timely and appropriate treatment.

This project was made possible with the collaboration of the Metropolitan Hospital, Avon, CENRAD, Roche, FUND, Group Purdy, BAC, MediSmart y AFZwho joined forces to carry out this initiative, demonstrating the power of partnerships to improve public health.

“We call on the business sector to join this cause in 2025, with the aim of reaching more women across the country and continuing to generate well-being. Prevention is the most important message we can bring to communities,” Nagel concluded.
