The parking pressure in the districts close to the center is increasing. Cars are getting bigger and wider, commuters and tourists are looking for free parking spaces, and wrong-way and third-party parkers do the rest. In winter, there are also mobile homes that block parking spaces and restrict the view with their size. But is it even allowed to park the camping vehicles in residential areas? Is it a problem in Bremen? The traffic and interior departments have so far not registered any abnormalities.
If they are ready for traffic, mobile homes can be parked lawfully for as long as the owner wants, according to the interior authorities. According to the Road Traffic Act (StVO), most of the motorhomes are legally allowed to park on the roadside. The total weight of the vehicles must not exceed 7.5 tons. For such very large, truck-like vehicles, parking in purely residential areas is prohibited between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and on Sundays and public holidays. “Caravans and other trailers can be parked for a maximum of 14 days,” says department spokeswoman Karen Stroink. Exceeding the 14-day period will be punished with ten euros. The fine could be increased the repeated time.
