ISLAMABAD: Following the arrest of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, mobile broadband services have been suspended across the country. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on Tuesday suspended mobile broadband services across the country in the wake of protests and violence, Dawn reported.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has confirmed that internet services have been temporarily suspended across the country as per the directives of the Ministry of Interior. Twitter, Facebook and YouTube have been banned across Pakistan following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, according to NetBlocks, an organization that tracks internet outages.

Imran Khan was arrested from Islamabad High Court premises in the Al Qadir Trust case. Following the arrest of Imran Khan, PTI activists are holding protests across Pakistan including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Karachi, Quetta, Mardan, Bannu and Chilas. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf activists pelted stones at houses, offices and vehicles, burnt banners and tires and blocked roads during the protests.

A mob pelted stones at Rana Sanaullah’s house in Faisalabad. Protesters have crossed the border of military commanders in Lahore and Rawalpindi amid widespread protests in Pakistan following Imran Khan’s arrest, local media reported. Imran Khan supporters also entered Peshawar Cantonment, shouting slogans against the army.

The first protest against Imran Khan’s arrest was a march to army headquarters. There were reports of PTI supporters breaking into the residence of an army officer in the Cantonment area of ​​Lahore. Protesters stormed the Flag Staff House of the Lahore Corps Commanders, the home of Pakistan’s founder Jinnah. PTI activists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gathered in the streets of Lucky Marwat district under the leadership of provincial party president Dr. Muhammad Iqbal against the arrest of Imran Khan. PTI supporters piled tires on the road and burnt them and blocked the Indus Highway.

Meanwhile, PTI supporters shut down shops in Peshawar. Meanwhile, after the arrest of Imran Khan, Section 144 was implemented in Pakistan’s Punjab and Islamabad. Dawn reported that PTI protesters also gathered near the Askari check post outside the cantonment area of ​​Quetta. In Lahore, PTI supporters gathered at Liberty Chowk under the leadership of Senator Ijaz Chaudhary. Akbar Chowk, Peko Road, Main Canal Road and Faisal Town have also been blocked by party workers, according to local media.

Demonstrators burnt tires and shouted slogans against the government. Outside Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence, PTI supporters tore government banners. Protests also took place on the main University Road near Old Sabzi Mandi, Banaras Chowk and Al-Asif Square, Pakistani media outlet Dawn reported.
