The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to conduct a pilot test of the single ticketing system across seven cities in the National Capital Region. The new system aims to streamline the enforcement of traffic violations by implementing uniform fines, contesting procedures, and digital payment platforms for the top 20 most common offenses. MMDA spokesperson Melissa Carunungan emphasizes that the pilot test will help identify possible issues before the system is fully enforced. The cities covered in the pilot test include Manila, Parañaque, Caloocan, Quezon City, San Juan, Muntinlupa, and Valenzuela. The MMDA aims to train local traffic enforcers to enforce the Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023 and eradicate corrupt practices, such as negotiation between motorists and officers. The single ticketing system is expected to harmonize existing national and local laws on traffic enforcement and penalties.
